Becker Acroma UK secured a contract with the UK’s leading coated MDF mouldings producer after transforming their production efficiency with new products, improved systems and tailored advice.
When Becker Acroma UK tendered for their business; the customer wanted a primer offering superior consistency to their existing supplier’s product but, in addition, could be supplied diluted and ready-for-use (RFU) to save production time. They operate four vacuum coating lines.
New product
Becker Acroma UK developed a waterborne RFU primer with a high solid content and excellent opacity, moisture resistance and good filling properties for MDF core. Drying speeds of just 6-7 seconds in a 400°c gas / infra-red oven enable the mouldings to be stacked straight off the line.
Brian Priestley has continued to work closely with the customer, providing advice on waste management and stock volumes.
The customer is currently using collapsible IBCs (Industrial Bulk Containers); introduced by Becker Acroma UK to reduce raw material space. This enables them to monitor production more effectively and production line efficiency has increased, so they can now coat 60 – 80 metres per minute.
