R&D Technician
Duties and Responsibilities:
Product Development - Wood Coatings
- Working as a team member on joined projects with other R&D chemists and technicians
- Develop new and/or improved wood coating products, based on original formulas, or from starting formulas from other BA locations or suppliers.
- Prepare the plans and schedules necessary for the development of these products.
- Prepare samples to test, apply these materials, then test the dried films, to develop successful products.
- Conduct testing according to KCMA, NEMA, etc. procedures
- Evaluate raw materials, manufacturing processes, competitors’ products as required.
Color Matching / Styling
- Color matching of the wet or dry samples submitted by sales or our customers.
- Ensuring that products used (bases, colorants) during color match process will meet BA quality standards.
- Production of small scale batches (solid colors and stains)
- Spray-out samples for colors approvals
- Utilize color computer for measuring of color differences and determining color adjustments
- Perform final color approval on small batches, may be assisted by appropriate salesman
- Learn about color styling and assist sales and customer with new color project
Other job related requirements:
- Travel to customer locations, both for determining scope of development projects, and for conducting field trials of experimental products. Travel within US and Canada may be required.
- Technical Support to Customers, Production, Sales, Tech Service, Quality Control
- Assist with spray outs of production products; use of Application Equipment
- QC back-up as needed
- Perform all duties in conformance with ISO Procedures, Safety Procedures
- Attend Training as required, both on-site, and external.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace, as per the Visual Workplace.
